MY FAVORITE KITCHEN ESSENTIALS IN 2020

Man, y’all. This year of 2020 is almost over. For me, baking and cooking has been a refuge. There are a number of things in my kitchen, from big to small, that I’ve used over and over again. Here are my top six!

MARCATO ATLAS 150 PASTA MACHINE

This pasta maker has made ravioli, agnolotti, pasta, pierogi and lasagna. It’s easy to use and the cut pasta attachment just perches on the back of the machine. I clamp it to my cutting board and it works like a dream!

KITCHENAID PROFESSIONAL 600 SERIES 6 QUART MIXER

I’ve made everything in this guy. From icing to meringue to cupcakes to cake to bread, this mixer does it all. Not recommended for single batch bakes (not all of the ingredients will be incorporated in the mixing bowl), but this machine is great for double batches and more. I’ve made four loaves of bread in this thing!

CUISINART WAFFLE MAKER

A basic waffle maker that served me well during quarantine. I made a whole mess of waffles during the shutdown from my discard sourdough starter. Maybe even…too many waffles. Read more in the San Antonio Express-News article here and find the recipe, too!

IKEA MORTAR AND PESTLE

Mortar and pestle.jpg

Ikea really did this right, y’all. A basic and beautiful mortar and pestle that weighs a ton! You can use both sides of the mortar and both sides of the pestle to crush and mix spices.

J.K. ADAMS DOWEL ROLLING PIN

My favorite tool in my kitchen this year. I love this rolling pin. It’s simple, elegant and rolls out dough easily. I’m not one for tapered ends on my rolling pins and this one is just perfect.

WILTON PIPING TIPS

This trio has ALL three of my favorite piping tips for cupcake decorating! 2A makes classic round ropes of icing. 2D and 1M make perfect floral swirls. 1M also makes perfect icing ropes for topping pies and cakes!
